SKU: USI Category:

Unknown to the United States military or anyone in the United States government, in June 1942, the German Reich successfully landed eight saboteurs by two Kriegsmarine U-Boats on United States beaches, one at Long Island, New York and the other, at Ponte Vedra, Florida. (After landing the saboteurs off Atlantic Avenue Beach, Long Island, the U-202 became grounded for several hours about two hundred feet offshore. The captain was making plans to skuttle the U-Boat as daylight was approaching, but finally with the rising tide the submarine was able to escape while the Coast Guard could only hear the engines.)  In November 1944, they once again successfully landed two agents by a Kriegsmarine U-Boat at Hancock Point, Maine. This is the sand from these beaches.
